About Karl Monger
My editing approach (not quite a philosophy, but close) boils down to this: storytelling is storytelling; every book manuscript, whatever the genre, involves at least one story that needs to be told appropriately, engagingly, and effectively. I work from the core belief that by the time a book hits the market it must have earned a place there, and this can only come about when premeditated and well considered writing and editing go into the mix.
Between 1991 and 1999, I wrote for many print and online publications, including Epicurious, nerve.com, and Thinkwell. My fiction has appeared in the Austin Chronicle and been featured at Borders Books and on KUT public radio. In 1997, I was awarded Boston University's Helen Deutsch Fellowship—an exclusive free ride to the prestigious Master's program in creative writing.
Since 1994 I have been a book editor, and I am proud of my list of clients and titles. Books I’ve edited have been singled out by the Chicago Review Press, the Independent Press Awards, ForeWord magazine, and Independent Publishers Group and have been praised by a wide variety of people, ranging from Deepak Chopra to Mark Victor Hansen (co-creator: #1 New York Times best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul® series).
I live with my wife and son in Austin, Texas.
